Climate Art in Action Kick-off Event!

We are excited to invite you to the Climate Art in Action Kick-off event! In collaboration with Thurston Climate Action Team’s new Climate Art in Action group, the event features music, poetry, and painting for the whole family.

Check out this awesome line-up!

“Opening Prayer” – Candace Penn, Squaxin Island Tribal Member and Climate Ecologist will open the event with a tribal blessing song.

“Sights and Sounds of a Century” - Jodie Childress will spin records and tell stories of music, messaging, and movements from the 1920s to 2020s.

“Collaborative Poetry Wall” – Kathleen Byrd will lead us in the writing of a Collaborative Climate Poem from the perspective of mountains, trees, and more!

“Climate Justice Wayfinding Project” – Leila Chavez and Julie Ratner will lead us in painting directional signs to help us find our way to a future where we not only survive, but thrive.

“Spoken Word/Poetry Reading and Open Mic for our Planet” – Hear poetry by local poets and spoken word artists Jennifer Johnson, Kathleen Byrd, Louisa Sevier, and Shon Forsyth!

“South Sound Studio Tour, Open Studio” – The open studio will be held April 30 and May 1 from 11-4 PM. Carrie Ziegler presents her recent studio paintings The Chrysalis Series and Sea Level Rise/A Mother’s Tears series. Darishma Alphonse, Design Team Member for the Climate Justice Mural Project and Shon Forsyth present recent paintings and sculptures exploring themes of liberation, yoga, lived experience, and more!


Notes:
· This is an outdoor event! Please bring water, a chair or blanket, maybe an umbrella or sunscreen, and anything else you need for your comfort. There is no public restroom.
· Please park on Delphi Rd and walk in. Priority parking in the driveway is reserved for those with mobility issues.
· Consider riding your bike! The event is located across from the Ralph Monroe Bike Trail, just 2 miles west of Olympia.
