Summer Reflections: Focusing On “Integration” & An Exciting New Mural Project!
As I write this, Seren heads off to her first day of school, the plums fall from our trees, dripping with juicy sweetness, and the apples hang heavy on branches. We will harvest this sweet bounty later, preserving it for winter. I welcome the changing seasons—the shift from the glorious busyness of summer to the focused energy of fall.

A year into the pandemic, my dear friend and collaborator Darishma Alphonse and I were invited to create a collaborative art project for GRuB Farm‘s 20th Anniversary Celebration. The goal was to find a creative way to engage over 200 staff, volunteers, and community members in a project that would safely celebrate the GRuB community.

A Watershed Moment - Nisqually Refuge Mural Project
Friends of Nisqually NWRC commissioned a local artist, Carrie Ziegler, to paint a large mural portraying the Nisqually Watershed, from glacier to sound. At over 24 feet wide and 14 feet tall, this mural, pictured, celebrates the grandeur of the whole Nisqually Watershed.

“What is that? Some crazy space scene?” I smiled at the question, secretly pleased. You see, the organisms in the mural I was painting do look completely out of this world. The iridescent shapes on the mural, standing out from the dark, black background, look like nothing other than bizarre space ships flying through space.
